Training for the use of security guards

Security guards work in many different areas. Of the majority, considered part of the law enforcement community, security guards protect the property and enforce the rules of any company they work for. These guards are sometimes employed for short periods in stores during the holiday season to help reduce shoplifting and other crimes. Other guards work full-time throughout the year to protect buyers, property, remittances and business executives.

The training differs from the training required for a police officer because a security guard does not have the same legal responsibilities or rights. While a deputy police officer can arrest a suspect on or off duty, a security guard has only the legal right to detain a suspect on or off the service.

Training for this job is different from other educational law enforcement requirements. A person wishing to be vigilant must complete an 8-hour class before commencing an assignment and receiving a certification. The certification is sent to their state government offices and the student must complete another training session that includes 16 hours of on-the-job training. This must be completed within 90 days.

Guards who plan to carry a weapon must also complete a 47-hour course on weapons or firearms. This course includes 40 hours of shooting and 7 hours of classroom training. They must meet a minimum standard before receiving certification.

Specific training for national Firewatch Company includes training in the handling of hazardous substances, counterterrorism, disaster management, incident management, plant safety and training in specific national security laws and regulations. This training adds to the demands of a normal armed security guard. Many universities now offer specific training in National Security as well as regular security protection courses. However, many decide to attend a special school to receive training.

These types of the watch have a variety of types of employment. From the protection of banks, various events, corporate guards and national security, security guards do not have a shortage of employment opportunities. A job description is a person employed to ensure the safety or injury of people or property. The descriptions of National Security work differ in the supplemental statement to protect the United States against weapons of mass destruction and terrorism.
